Dried pineapple is rich in vitamin C, dietary fiber, and other nutrients, meaning it is a healthy snack any time of the day. Our pineapple has been naturally dried by Azuri Health using the Kenyan sun and natural gas to preserve the natural flavour.
Even better, the pineapple is grown by small farmers and cooperatives in Kenya, who benefit from a fair and long-term relationship with Azuri Health. By working with these farmers to dry the pineapple, Azuri Health helps them reduce the amount of their harvest that may have become food waste. Better for the environment and communities.
By buying direct through Storimarket you are ensuring Azuri Health and their farmers are getting a fair deal, which allows them to continue to produce amazing food products in a way that is good for the environment, good for communities and good for business.
Samuel has been growing pineapples on his small farm in Mariwa for 5 years. The farm now has three full-time employees, with up to ten employed during busy harvest periods. The pineapples are harvested all year round - around 500 pineapples are picked per week.
He loves working with Azuri because he gets a fair price, gets paid immediately and they take large quantities. Local agents often don’t pay and they only take the best fruit, leaving the rest to rot away. His collaboration with Azuri means he can plan for the future, expand production and get the necessary finance to diversify. This all allows Samuel to support his wife and five children, aged between five and 14 years old.
Samuel’s pineapples are 100% natural, meaning no artificial fertilisers or insecticides are used. The only fertiliser he uses is natural maize. He chooses cayenne pineapples because they are less spikey, juicier and sweeter than other variations.
He uses only traditional farming techniques. The pineapples are interspersed with other crops such as corn and papaya which he grows to feed his employees and his family.
